Automotive Service Writer

The Automotive Service Writer serves as the primary point of contact between customers and the service department. This role involves understanding customer concerns, scheduling service appointments, providing estimates, and ensuring that all work is completed to the customer's satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of automotive repair processes, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Customer Interaction: Greet customers, listen to their vehicle concerns, and document service requests accurately.
• Service Scheduling: Schedule service appointments, balancing customer needs with shop capacity and technician availability.
• Estimate Preparation: Provide detailed cost estimates for repairs and maintenance, including parts, labor, and additional services.
• Work Orders: Create and manage work orders, ensuring that all customer requests are clearly communicated to the technicians.
• Communication: Keep customers informed throughout the service process, providing updates on the status of their vehicles and any additional work that may be required.
• Problem Resolution: Address customer concerns and complaints promptly, working to ensure a positive service experience.
• Product Knowledge: Maintain a strong understanding of automotive products, services, and warranties to effectively advise customers.
• Sales: Recommend additional services or products that may benefit the customer, such as tire replacements, fluid flushes, or extended warranties.
• Documentation: Accurately record all customer interactions, service recommendations, and completed work in the service management system.
• Follow-Up: Conduct post-service follow-ups with customers to ensure satisfaction and encourage repeat business.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Previous experience in an automotive service or sales role is preferred, but not required.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and proficiency with computer systems.
• Knowledge: Basic understanding of automotive systems and repair processes is desirable.
• Certifications: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification is a plus but not required.
